Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on the 28th of October 1967 and was the child of Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. The fourth generation of the Roberts generation that has lived in Atlanta that began with her great-grandfather who was a farmer John Pendleton Roberts. Her father was the first interest to the theater. While attending Emory University in 1952 he participated in plays on campus and elsewhere in Atlanta. When he was stationed in Biloxi in Mississippi, he was cast as a soldier in an upcoming play along with Betty Lou Bredemus. In 1955, the couple tied the knot and then in 1956 their child Eric Anthony was born. After 1957, the couple resigned from the military and Walter began his studies at Tulane University in New Orleans Louisiana. In 1960, the couple moved in Decatur Georgia where Walter began working with Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. In 1964 Walter as well as Betty Lou began production on a local children's Saturday morning television show called Bum Bum and His Buddies which they financed themselves. Later that year they founded The Actors and Writers Workshop which continued for six seasons. They had two more kids Lelisa (called Lisa) Billingsley in 1965 and Julia (called Julie) in 1967.
